Why Journaling is More Than Just Putting Pen to Paper: How it Supports Mind, Body, and Spirit

When we share that we offer journaling workshops, we either get one of three reactions from people, they get excited, they are confused, and or instantly intrigued. No matter which category you fall in, we’re going to briefly share more about our method to the madness.

Journaling has been a popular practice for centuries, used for everything from self-reflection to goal setting. But is it really the end-all-be-all when it comes to caring for our overall well-being? While it may not be the only solution, journaling can certainly be a powerful tool in supporting our mental, physical, and spiritual health.

Studies have found that journaling can improve mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as increasing self-esteem and self-compassion. It can also benefit physical health by reducing symptoms of chronic pain and improving sleep. Additionally, journaling can help individuals connect with their spirituality and find a sense of purpose.

But it's not just about the act of journaling itself, and it may not be the end-all-be-all solution for everyone, but it’s a start point for helping us to examine who we are, our voice, our needs, and understanding and mapping out personalized steps that align with caring for one’s unique needs.

With that said, our workshop incorporates experiential learning, which is a method of learning that involves actively engaging in hands-on experiences and reflecting on the process and outcomes. We also incorporate a wellness framework that helps individuals understand how different areas of their life (such as physical, emotional, spiritual, financial, social, and more) are interconnected and impact one another. Through guided prompts and activities, participants will learn how to use journaling as a tool for self-discovery, self-care, and growth.

In summary, while journaling may not be the only solution for holistic wellness, it is a powerful tool that can support us in caring for our mind, body, and spirit. Our workshop offers a unique opportunity for participants to learn about the benefits of journaling and how to incorporate it into their own self-care routine.
