Stress Management Challenge: Coping Strategies

Happy Thursday!

We're at the home stretch and we're getting into the fun stuff. Today is Day 4 of our Stress Management Challenge! Now we're exploring our coping strategies.

As mentioned yesterday, stress looks different for everyone and that also goes for coping strategies. Coping strategies can range from laughter to talking to a therapist. I love the discussing coping strategies because beyond moments of stress, its great to know get to know and make time for these activities that make you feel centered, alive, and allow you the opportunity to experience joy. Here are a few ideas for coping strategies that are useful for stress reduction:

  • Deep Breathing

  • Jogging

  • Prayer

  • Yoga

  • Meditation

  • Tai Chi

  • Progressive Muscle Relaxation

  • Massage Therapies

  • Visual Imagery

  • Laughter

  • Listening to Music

  • Journaling

  • Aromatherapy

  • nutritional supplement

When working with clients who were unsure of their coping strategies, I would also go through this list with them and it would almost automatically become easier for them to identify their coping strategies. Additionally, I would also suggest that they choose a few coping strategies that they might want to explore in the future.

Personally, a few of my favorite coping strategies include journaling, meditation, affirmations, unplugging, aromatherapy, engaging in physical activity like running, yoga, or going to the gym, listening to uplifting music, spending time with my dog, and just being still.

Today, I CHALLENGE YOU to take 5 minutes to list 10-15 coping strategies that help you reduce stress and also try to utilize one of your coping strategies today! If you need some help feel free to take a few coping skills from this list.

Have a great day,

Iyana
